Washington's Birthday Regatta

Sailing

The Washington’s Birthday Regatta commemorates the first yacht race on Biscayne Bay, organized in 1887 by Ralph Middleton Munroe—architect of The Barnacle, boat designer, Coconut Grove pioneer, and first Commodore of the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club. This year’s regatta is open to small sailing craft of traditional rig. The Skippers’ Meeting and continental breakfast begin at The Barnacle at 10 a.m., and the race starts at noon on the bay. Following the regatta, participants are encouraged to come back to The Barnacle for the traditional Chowder Party wearing period clothing from the Era of the Bay (1821-1896). Dinner, the awards ceremony, and "Who in the Grove do you think you are?" costume contest begin at 5:30 p.m. Visit www.thebarnacle.org to register.
