Side by Side by Sondheim - MDC Kendall Campus On Stage


Miami Dade Collegeís Kendall Campus On Stage presents Side by Side by Sondheim, an enchanting Summer musical revue featuring the songs of the Broadway and film composer Stephen Sondheim. The three-night engagement taking place from Thursday, July 19th to Saturday, July 21st will be presented at MDC Kendall Campus, McCarthy Theater Auditorium, from 7:30 pm- 9:00 pm. Admission is free and open to the public and is first come first serve seating. Produced by the MDC Kendall Campus Music Department, directed by Dr. Leo Walz and performed by MDC Music majors and faculty, the Tony Award-winning Musical Side by Side by Sondheim is a perfect introduction to the work of composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim. His compositions have set the standard for modern American musical theater for the past five decades and his remarkable song-writing has earned him a record seven Tony Awards. From the streets of ancient Rome to the high-rise apartments of 1970ís Manhattan, his melodies represent an absolute time and place creating timeless and masterful pieces. The musicalís title is derived from the song "Side by Side by Side" from Sondheimís 1970 musical comedy, Company. Other featured songs include Follies, A Little Night Music, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Anyone Can Whistle and Pacific Overtures, as well as the classics written with musical theatre giants, Leonard Bernstein, Jule Styne and Richard Rodgers. This impressive array of some of Sondheim's most popular songs demonstrates his exquisite craft and astounding creativity.
