Looking Ahead: Macroeconomic Challenges Facing Latin America and the Caribbean - Lecture by Dr. Carlos Végh, World Bank Chief Economist for Latin America and the Caribbean

Join the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs for a discussion about economic challenges and solutions to some of the most pressing macroeconomic concerns for Latin America and the Caribbean. Carlos Végh, the World Bank Chief Economist for Latin America and the Caribbean, oversees a team of economists charged with providing intellectual leadership, economic analysis and advice on the development issues facing that region. Prior to starting his new role at the Bank, Végh was the Fred H. Sanderson Professor of International Economics at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He is currently editor in chief of Economía, a publication of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association. For 28 years, FIU Architecture students have participated-in and celebrated Walk on Water, a race founded and orchestrat­ed by Professor Jaime Canaves. Each student designs and constructs shoes that will allow him/her to walk the length of the Green Lake at the heart of FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus.Florida International University is opening its doors to students from U.S. and International universities to compete in its competition of designing and constructing a floatable shoe that has to be walked across a lake (distance of about 350 feet). Florida International University is opening its doors to students from U.S. and International universities to compete in its competition of designing and constructing a floatable shoe that has to be walked across a lake (distance of about 350 feet). Learn more about participating in FIU’s 28th Annual Walk on Water competition sponsored by CGI Impact Resistant Windows & Doors online: The first five programs to register will receive a special package including a FREE two-night stay at the Aloft Miami Doral Hotel as well as materials for constructing shoes.
