Frank Contemporaries

Frank Contemporaries is a free monthly pop-up exhibition and meet-up for emerging creative and visual arts professionals to network and foster connections. April’s Frank Contemporaries will showcase the paintings of visual artist Luisa Pulido and Bakehouse Art Complex artist Alejandra Suarez. This exhibition will highlight new artworks by local middle school and high school students with disabilities, created during an innovative on-site Arts4All Florida Museum Residency program at The Frank. This event will include a musical performance by Tropical Wave, the premier vocal ensemble from the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida, and an art market by Artists With Autism Inc., a nonprofit networking group that promotes micro-enterprise and independence among aspiring artists on the autism spectrum. This event is free to the public. Complimentary refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Free @ The Frank Workshop: Identity Banners

Artist Laura Marsh is known for her vibrant “identity banners,” which represent the desire to become an inclusive society that recognizes diversity as a positive sign of cultural strength. In this artmaking workshop, Laura will lead students through introductory sewing techniques and have them explore and analyze their identities to create their own bold, colorful identity banners. The event is free and open to the public. All materials provided and no prior experience is required.

Kids’ Corner @ The Frank: Story Time Hour

Children's Arts/Crafts, Museum

Join The Frank for story time! Together with their guardian, children ages eight and under build literacy and engage in art activities related to the exhibition, Prism. In celebration of individuality and understanding, our featured storybook will be “The Color Monster: A Story about Emotions” by Anna Llenas. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The event is free and open to the public.

"Into Africa" Opening Reception

The Frank presents “Into Africa,” developed in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund and the Smithsonian Institution, and organized and traveled by the National Geographic Society, this exhibition features the work of one of National Geographic’s most prolific and visionary nature photographers, Frans Lanting. The new exhibition will open Friday, May 24 with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Reception guests will enjoy a special performance by students of the flagship ‘Rhythms of Africa’ program at West Broward High School, led by musician and director Willie Stewart. This event is free to the public. Complimentary refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Free @ The Frank Workshop: Patterns of Africa! Multicultural Design Workshop for Kids

In this hands-on workshop, children six years and older will discover the artistic traditions of African cultures and learn fun painting techniques with every day art materials. Participants will create vibrant patterned designs inspired by the beautifully painted houses of the Ndebele people and the fine traditional robes of the Maasai tribe of Kenya. The event is free and open to the public. Children must be supervised. All materials provided and no prior experience is required.
