Kip Hunter Marketing “Making REAL Connections” Breakfast

In recognition of the tremendous support and connections that 2-1-1 Broward has received from its community partners, the non-profit organization is holding its Kip Hunter Marketing “Making REAL Connections” Breakfast presented by Baptist Health South Florida and hosted by Signature Grand on Tuesday, April 30th. The Breakfast honors local individuals and organizations that have played key roles in helping 2-1-1 Broward accomplish its goals. This year’s honorees include: • BBX Capital and their Family of Companies: BBX Capital Real Estate, Bluegreen Vacations, Hoffman’s Chocolates, IT’SUGAR, MOD Pizza and The Altman Companies. • Broward Business Council on Homelessness – a partnership between United Way of Broward County and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance. • Leo Goodwin Foundation. • Coral Springs Community Chest. • Gavin Gaukroger, Esq.: Board Ambassador. • Jonathan Roaf: Club 2-1-1 Ambassador. During the Breakfast, 2-1-1 Broward will recognize each honoree for their commitment to building connections within our community and for helping 2-1-1 Broward fulfill its mission and meet its goals. 2-1-1 Broward facilitates the connection of people to health and human services, and the organization’s partners and supporters help offer the opportunities to make these connections. Without this support, 2-1-1 Broward would not survive. Event sponsors include Kip Hunter Marketing, Signature Grand, Baptist Health South Florida, JM Family Enterprises, Castle Group, Publix, Canon, Brown & Brown Insurance, City & Shore Magazine and Eye on South Florida. 7:30 a.m. Network and Buffet Breakfast. 8:30 a.m. Program begins. Women In Distress 13th Annual Starfish Luncheon

Benefit/Fundraiser

The 13th Annual Women In Distress Starfish Luncheon presented by JM Family Enterprises, Inc./Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC and Ultimate Software, will honor community leaders: Broward College (Gregory Adam Haile, President) and Memorial Healthcare System (Aurelio Fernandez III, CEO & President) for their significant contributions to improve the lives of survivors of domestic violence. A survivor of domestic violence will also be recognized and will receive the Marti Huizenga Endowment for Educational Advancement Scholarship. This annual event supports Women In Distress mission to end domestic violence abuse for everyone. An inspirational, powerful program will celebrate the courageous journey survivors have taken to leave a life of abuse and become strong, productive members of our community. 5th Annual Behavioral Health Conference: The Power of Prevention

United Way of Broward County’s Commission on Behavioral Health & Drug Prevention, in collaboration with Broward Behavioral Health Coalition and Signature Grand, present the 5th Annual Behavioral Health Conference: The Power of Prevention, a two-day conference promoting community awareness and support of behavioral health and substance use prevention. The Conference will provide a forum for participants to learn, be informed, network and discuss issues related to research, policy and practice. Participants will expand professional knowledge; provide quality continuing education to behavioral health professionals; and promote community awareness of behavioral health and substance abuse prevention. Speakers will include: Dr. Marc Brackett, Ph.D., Director, Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence & Professor at Child Study at Yale-- Dr. Brackett is a lead developer of RULER, an evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning that has been adopted by over 1,500 public, charter, and private pre-school to high schools across the United States and in other countries, including Australia, China, England, Italy, Mexico, Spain, and Sri Lanka. He also consults with large companies, including Facebook and Google on best practices for integrating the principles of emotional intelligence into training and product design. Dr. Peter Gorski, MD, MP- Dr. Gorski is a nationally respected developmental-behavioral pediatrician, educator, author and advocate for the healthy development of children, families and communities. He is also a professor at the University of Miami, Florida International University and University of South Florida. Francine Ward, Esq:Once homeless and addicted to drugs and alcohol, Francine Ward is now an accomplished lawyer and has authored two books in her Esteemable Acts series.
