Florida’s Children First, the state’s premiere independent advocacy organization, will honor child advocates in Broward County at its annual fundraising and awards event. George Winston

George Winston is known for interpreting pieces on solo piano by his most beloved composers. The inspiration for this happened in 1965 when, at 16, he saw "A Charlie Brown Christmas," featuring Vince Guaraldi's timeless soundtrack. In addition to Guaraldi, other influences on Winston include Professor Longhair, The Doors, Frank Zappa, Randy Newman and Sam Cooke. Outside of his piano compositions and performances, he is also an accomplished blues harmonica and slack-key guitar player. In concert, he'll play selections from his seasonal favorites performed in his melodic folk style, as well as some New Orleans R&B, stride piano, and more.

Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida: Harlequinade/Marius Petipa Tribute I

Classical

Originally made into a ballet in 1900, by Marius Petipa, with music by Riccardo Drigo, Harlequinade follows Harlequin, and his lover, Columbina, as they outwit Columbinas father, Cassander. He wishes Columbine to marry a rich suitor, so he keeps her locked up inside the house, away from Harlequin. He entrusts the key to his servant, Pierrot, Columbinas friend, Pierretta, comes to the house and steals the key away from Pierrot. She unlocks the house and lets Harlequin in, allowing the two lovers to reunite and more dancing to ensue.

Andy McKee

Andy McKee is an American finger-style guitar player with a major reputation among guitar players for his musicality and virtuosity on the acoustic guitar. His reputation stems from his YouTube videos. McKee plays the whole instrument, clacking and thumping the body, plucking the fret strings and at times working the fretboard overhand. He transforms the steel string guitar into a full orchestra via his use of altered tunings, tapping, partial capos, percussive hits and a signature two-handed technique. He’s been featured as a cover story in both Acoustic Guitar Magazine in the U.S. and Acoustic Magazine in the UK, and is also the figurehead of the unique Guitar Masters tours which has traveled the world over.

In 2016, 10,000 Maniacs marked their 35th anniversary; keyboardist Dennis Drew and bassist Steven Gustafson remain from the 1981 lineup, when they formed in Jamestown, NY, as Still Life. They're still best known for their hit albums of the late '80s and early '90s, "In My Tribe" and "Blind Man's Zoo," when Natalie Merchant (who left in 1993) was singing lead.
