Prevention and Remembrance: Overdose Awareness Day

Community Event

A candlelight vigil for those who lost their lives from opioid overdose will be part of the Opioid Overdose-Prevention and Remembrance Day put on by the South Florida Wellness Network, Inc. (SFWN). On Saturday, August 31st at Arts Park in Downtown Hollywood. There will be live music, food trucks and resource tables with information from agencies dealing with various aspects of the health, social and economic dimensions of the crisis in opioid use. The current equal opportunity crisis in opioid and opioid related overdose deaths affects all sectors of the society and overburdens health facilities, law enforcement and emergency response services locally and nationally. South Florida Wellness Network, Inc., is a peer run, not-for-profit agency that works for recovery, resiliency and wellness for adults, youth and families in Broward County. SFWN provides peer support, education and resources to those coping with substance use and mental health challenges in Broward communities. SFWN is also actively engaged in training community, education and professional groups in the use of Narcan. The CDC (Center for Disease Control) reported that the use of Narcan kits has already saved countless lives. The SFWN Prevention and Remembrance Day is Saturday, August 31, 5pm - 10pm at Arts Park, Young Circle, 1733 E. Young Circle, Hollywood, FL 33020.
